FLIP - Shortfilm

Directed by Juan Sierra and Martin Bueno

Based in our teenage years and the desire to "don't forget where you come from" Juan wrote and directed this short film. Wonderful artists joined me to make it a reality and we are all very proud of the final product.

Our Story Telling style was heavily inspired by comic panels of course. But more so by the idea of "showing multiple angles of the same event". Daniel Shambo brought this idea to the table and I decided to run with it and heavily root the story around it as well.

In a dream like scenario you can indeed "see" multiple angles of the same event, even yourself. This helped add context, interest and also confusion when needed.

Early on in pre-production, We decided to go for a 2d / 3d hybrid style. We did it to accomplish the desired look, but also to better fit our team's limitations. Luckily, Karen Castillo took over the Art Direction and together we figured the best approach to fit both worlds.

As you can see above and bellow, all scenes were first modeled in 3d with basic shapes, and they were used both by our 3d animators and our background artist. Finally the final merge and look were accomplished by the incredible work, research and experimentation of Pablo Estrella and Phoebe Britton.
